Nisseua Shawl is a beautiful triangular shawl knit in one piece, top down. It is worked in sport weight yarn, in two different colors. The body of the shawl is knit in three different stitch patterns: first you work the Dot Pattern, after which the contrast color is introduced and Old Shale Pattern is worked, using both main and contrast color yarns. The third and last part of the shawl is worked in Nupp and Lace Pattern. The shawl is finished with Garter Stitch border.

The nupps in this design remind me of hazelnuts. Nisseua means hazelnut in Genoese dialect. The region where I live is famous for its exceptional hazelnuts. There are many hazelnut groves surrounding our villages in Liguria.

Yarn: Lanivendole A Pure And Simple Wool 100% wool; 300 meters (328 yards)/100g (3.53 oz): 1 skein; sample shown in Seasonal Portraits Autumn (Main Color) and London Fog (Contrast Color) colorways;
Or: approx. 750 m/ 820 yards of sport weight yarn in Main Color and approx. 75 m/ 82 yards of sport weight yarn in Contrast Color; 
Please note: the yardage does not include the tassel;

Gauge: 17 sts and 28 rows in Stockinette Stitch to 10 cm/ 4” on 4.5 mm/US7 needles, blocked; 
Gauge is not important for this project but it will affect the size of your shawl and the yardage. Make sure you have enough yarn to complete your project.

Needles: 4.5 mm/ US7 80 cm (32”) circular needles or needle size to obtain the gauge; 

Other: 4 stitch markers, crochet hook (optional), tapestry needle to weave in loose ends;


Measurements: measurements after blocking: approx. 160 cm/ 63“ wide, 72 cm/ 28“ long
