NOTES: This is my attempt at creating a washcloth with no problems! I hope you find it as satisfactory and beautiful as I do.
I believe that washcloths, even though they are used for the most dreary, dull, and disappointing of household tasks, should be pretty and should never, under any circumstances, curl, or have an ugly bind off or cast on, or look lumpy because your gauge changed while you were watching a horror movie while knitting. (Okay, you probably can’t do anything about the best parts unless it’s to stop knitting and I know nobody wants to do that!)

This washcloth does not curl. It lies perfectly flat. Any typical knit on the bias washcloth has curling corners and ugly cast on and bind offs, but this washcloth has a continuous border. If your washcloth is still curling after using the no problem edges, I recommend a blocking.

These make wonderful gifts, as they are quick and easy to complete and who doesn’t want a lovely hand knit washcloth?

TECHNIQUES:
This pattern will guide you through the basics of creating a washcloth/dishcloth that you will use and love, with a few features that your average bias-knit dishcloth does not have:

  1. no curling edges
  2. no ugly cast on
  3. no ugly bind off either

To create the above washcloth, you’ll need to know:

  1. how to work a provisional cast on. (if you don’t know how yet, check YouTube!)
  2. how to work Kitchener stitch or a 3-needle bind off (again, check YouTube if you don’t know how)
  3. how to yarn over
  4. how to knit two stitches together

If you do not want to use a provisional cast on, check the pattern notes for more information on how to use an ordinary cast on to still create a no problem washcloth.

MATERIALS: 4.5mm (US 7) or 5mm (US 8) knitting needles to work flat and worsted / aran cotton

COPYRIGHT:
A quick note about copyright before the actual copyright statement:
This washcloth pattern is fairly similar to other on-the-bias washcloth patterns, which are not copyrighted patterns. However, this pattern is the product of my own research and discovery to create a 100% seamless border on the washcloth. I’ve knit more than 10 washcloths to test this technique and a lot of work has gone into this pattern. I don’t care about earning money for my work, however I don’t want anyone else to violate my copyright laws by saying that this pattern is really their own. Thanks!

You are free to sell or give away your finished washcloths, but please don’t distribute this pattern as yours, whether free or for sale. This pattern is © Elizabeth Caneday, 2019.

On October 24, 2019, I edited and updated the pattern so it is easier to read and made some minor changes to the washcloth pattern that create an even nicer edge. Also, I added a QuickPrint version for more advanced knitters with no explanations of the stitches required. It is only one page long so it saves you ink as well! To print, download the QuickPrint.pdf on the left. The new and updated pattern is on the far right. It is titled NoProblemWashcloth-UPDATED.pdf.

THANK YOU: No Problem! Washcloth has no problems. It’s been test knit by an awesome group of volunteers. Many thanks to them!
