This document is more of a description of how to make a scarf using a stitch called horizontal ribbing. It can be done in any size/length using any gauge/weight of yarn. It’s more of a technique for a stitch than a pattern.

  1. The no-purl horizontal rib stitch requires that you use a circular cable needle and also requires that you have two balls of yarn even if you’re only making it one-color.

  2. The scarf can be done in 2x2 or 4x4 horizontal ribbing, but it must be an even number of rows per rib.

  3. Adapting the scarf to different weight yarns and lengths is simple with a small gauge swatch and a little math. The given instructions are for worsted weight yarn on US8 (5 mm) needles resulting in a 5”x98” (13 cm x 250 cm) scarf.
