This pattern is for a small no-sew spider and a fly (for it to eat!). The pattern also includes printable templates to enable you to make the matchbox and name card, making it an ideal gift, stocking filler or craft fair item.

This project is no-sew (you only have to close the hole at the end) and the spider can be made in around 20 minutes.

If you choose to make the spider without the box, this design also works well in thicker blanket yarns.

The pattern is written in English using American crochet terms and contains loads of photos to help you every step of the way.

You will need:
Yarn of your choice. I used aran weight yarn (equivalent to worsted, weight 4) and the body of my finished spider measures approximately 4.5cm long with a leg-span of 7cm. Using a thicker yarn than this may result in your pet spider not fitting inside the accompanying box.

You will need the following colours:

  • Main spider colour - I use dark grey or black (approx. 9m).
  • Main fly colour - I used dark grey (approx. 1.5m).
  • Fly’s wings colour - I used white (approx. 1.25m).

Please Note - The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.

You will also need:

  • A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
  • A pair of 6mm black safety eyes (the eyes can be embroidered if preferred).
  • A length of finer yarn or thread for adding the mouth (and eyes if not using safety eyes).
  • A small amount of toy stuffing.
  • Other tools you will need are a needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.
  • To make the matchbox and name card, you will need access to a printer and to print the relevant pages out onto thick white paper or thin white card.

You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself. Thank you.
