NoCoBo (the 3-3-1 MKAL)
NoCoBo = No cast-on - No bind-off
I came up with this shape because I like the idea of knitting sideways, but generally find that sideways-knitted items don’t have the type of drape I like.
This was originally the 3-3-1 mystery knit: the mystery bit is over, but the pattern is still in the original mystery format - at least for now.

Difficulty level: advanced beginner - the only stitches used are knit, purl, slip, k2tog, kfb (knit into front and back loops) and yo (yarn over).
Knit a variation of a favourite classic stitch with a construction that’s probably new to many knitters to make An item that’s good for draping over the shoulders on a cool summer’s night or wearing as a scarf in winter.
you will need to be able to weigh your yarn. You don’t need special knitting scales, accurate kitchen ones are fine. Weighing the yarn allows us to keep everything in proportion and make the pattern fit YOUR yarn. Using this method will mean you almost certainly already have a yarn you could use for the KAL. So maybe if you don’t have scales you could use stash yarn and buy scales instead of yarn ?
lace-weight, fingering - light fingering - sport or DK weight - originally designed for space-dyed yarns - semi-solid or solid could also be used.
you can also alternate 2 yarns.
You’ll need about 350-450m (385-490 yds), but you can use a little less if you want to use a single skein of fingering weight - the finished item will just be a bit smaller.
If using 2 yarns at least half the yardage of each.
Many thanks to the testers for their knits and comments:
