This pattern is tested.
The pattern is tested by a group of talented testers.
List of testers at the bottom of these notes.
One of my testers call this “the most romantic cardigan ever”, and it is true that I wanted to design a very romantic cardigan to go with anything from a pair of jeans to a flower print dress.
6 different lace-patterns are worked together, melting into eachother and making this cardigan so special, to wear and also to knit.
The wide sleeves starting from the lace-patterned cuffs may be the stars of the design, but I didn’t want them to play the solo part and designed lots of lace for the body, too.
The width of the sleeves are nicely gathered to the body in the upper part, as I strongly believe that a great fit is as important as beautiful stitches. The neck/button-bands are worked in one piece from picked-up sts.
Sizes
Finished chest measurements, when buttoned: 83/92.5/102/110/120/129 cm = 32.5/36.5/40/43.5/47/51”.
Materials
I believe that this special garment deserves a great yarn of excellent quality.
Yarn: I recommend a sport, or fingering weight yarn, that knits up to gauge. I used the Organic Cotton 2 from Krea Deluxe, in natural. This sport weight yarn comes in balls of 50 gr/1.76 oz and 165 m/180 yards. Of this specific yarn you will need approximately 7/8/9/11/12/13 balls. Needles: a circular needle 80 – 100 cm/32 – 40” long, size 3 mm/US2.5, to work body. A set of DPNS (or a circular needle if working the magic loop), size 3 mm/US2.5 for the sleeves. Important: use the needle size to obtain gauge! Notions: Buttons, 13 mm/0.5” across.
Waste-yarn, or holders for keeping the sleeve-sts. 4 removable stitch-markers. Cable needle (optional). Tapestry needle. Blocking tools.
Gauge
24 sts and 36 - 38 rows in lace-pattern = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4”.
Construction
The cardigan is worked bottom-up and seamlessly.
The pattern
All lace-patterns are charted.
The lace-patterns for the sleeves and lower body are written out.
(the lace-patterns of the upper body are charted only).
There is a schematic.
Measurements are given in cm’s, as well as in inches.
Knitting techniques
Knowledge of lace-knitting.
Grafting (the underarm sts).
Picking up sts (for the neck/button-bands).
