This pattern will walk you through the basic techniques for toe-up sock construction using a German short-row heel.

The pattern is written for long circular needles, however you can use DPN’s or nine inch circulars. I do find it easy to cast on with Judy’s magic cast on, on long circular needles before switching to other needles ;)

After you know the basics of sock construction and complete your Nomad socks, you can then move on to experimenting with different heel techniques and incorporating patterns. The German short row is the fastest and easiest method of constructing heels, it also looks fabulous and is quite durable!

The pattern is written out using simple instructions and divided into sections for each part of its construction.

I hope you enjoy this pattern, and it takes away the fear of sock knitting so you can continue onto beautiful lace, cable and fair isle designs in the future!
