Non/Traditional is a hat and mittens set inspired by traditional Scandinavian colorwork, with a few untraditional twists. Featuring a simple-to-work 3-color braided cast-on, garter-stitch cuffs worked flat before joining for the round, and tiny braided pigtails for an added touch of whimsy, this DK-weight project is suitable for the beginning to intermediate knitter. Hat is one size, mittens fit an 8” hand with suggestions for enlargement.

You will need four different colors to work both hat and mittens as shown; I found that one 110ish yd skein of each color but the one that’s used as the main color in the mittens was enough (I did need to dip into a second skein of that one -- as shown here it’s the black yarn).
