About the Nonya Love Letter (Kueh Belanda) / Kueh Kapit Pattern

This is another Singapore local snack favourite – the Nonya Love Letters, one of the many must-haves during Chinese New Year.

Traditional Nonya Love Letters are traditional thin wafer snacks made with egg batter and waffle iron clasps.
Kueh Kapit is the triangle folded version. These can be found in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

During this festive season, crochet a tub full of Nonya Love Letters and gift it to your friends and family!

There are various Nonya Love Letters (Kueh Belanda) designs included in this PDF pattern, namely:

1. Simple Round Nonya Love Letters (written instructions; photo tutorial)
2. Surface Slip-Stitched Nonya Love Letters (written instructions; photo tutorial)
3. Simple Mandala Nonya Love Letters (written instructions; crochet chart)

The Simple Round one is essentially the base of the Surface Slip-Stitched Nonya Love Letters.
This base allows you to freestyle whatever design you wish, should you choose to get creative with the designs.

The pattern includes written instructions, photo tutorials and a crochet chart (for Simple Mandala Nonya Love Letters only).

Skill Level
Beginner / Easy

Yarn and Hook Size
• Any Khaki or Light Brown yarn
• For the Surface Slip-Stitched Nonya Love Letter:

2 different shades of Khaki / Light Brown

• lighter shade: for the surface slip stitches
• darker shade: for the round base

Same yarn type should be used to complete both the Nonya Love Letters and surface slip stitches.

Following yarn and hook size have been used to complete the project:
• 4-Ply Acrylic Yarn: 2.5mm

Finished Size
This pattern has been tested with 4-Ply Acrylic Yarn and the finished size is approximately:
• Diameter: 14cm when flatten
• Height: 2.5cm – 3cm when rolled up

Future makes of various sizes, if any, will be made available as an addendum to this document.
