Continuing my series af socks based on old fisherman’s ganseys/ frocks I will now take the sweater from Noordwijk, a little Dutch coastal village as a starting point. It’s the only sweater with a quite different stitch in it. The stitch is called Bramensteek/ Blackberry stitch and they think this sweater does not originate like the others from Great Britain, but from Danmark. So I think I will call this sock The Noordwijker Brombær / Blackberrys from Noordwijk. Brombær is Danish for Blackberry.
On the picture you see a little boy with a sailing boat on his lap, and he is wearing a sweater that is typical for Noorwijk.
I’m not sure whether my son with size 14,5/49,5 will like these colors. Besides having nothing to do with fish he also has nothing to do with soccer…..
I want to knit the socks like the sweater in panels using the orange/white yarn from Regia that was designed for the world soccer matches last year or so. And of course the orange white yarn is designed for the Dutch soccer team….
More about these sweaters in the book Nederlandse Visserstruien by Henriette van der Klift-Tellegen, also translated in English.
