The Norah hat is worked in the round from the bottom up, beginning with a k2 p1 rib folded brim. The vine pattern is created using stranded colorwork and a spiral pattern of decreases is worked to create the crown of the hat. This pattern is great for adventurous beginners looking to get started with colorwork or more advanced knitters looking for a quick and fun project to use up some stash yarn.
The sample is knitted in Lamb’s Pride Worsted, but any aran weight yarn will work, or you could hold lighter yarns together to create more interesting textures. The colorwork is easy to memorize with no long floats.
Techniques used include creating a seamless folded brim, working a rib stitch, working two-strand color work, and working a simple decrease pattern.
This pattern requires two colors of yarn, around 100-150 yards/meters of background color and a small amount of contrasting yarn for the design.
