One of my favourite designers is Norah Gaughan who still sets the benchmark for geometrical patterns and innovative knitwear design. She recently published “Twisted Stitch Sourcebook” where she shared a wealth of stitch patterns to guide and inspire knitters of all levels. The pattern stitch I am using is my own but it came to life after swatching and playing with some of Norah’s ideas. The geometrical pattern used throughout this vest can be altered in a couple of areas to reveal hidden flowers.
The top is worked sideways and features hexagons achieved by the use of a combination of garter stitch, purl stitch and travelling knit stitches. The front and back panels feature sloped shoulders and are worked flat, with the front V-shaped neckline obtained by symmetrical decreases and increases.
