The Swedish word ”Kavelfrans” describes a type of fringe that often is used in Swedish and Finnish folk costumes. I learned to crochet these when I was working with my Finno-Swedish folk costume. The photos in this pattern are all showing items from the folk costume from Kokkola/Karleby in Finland
Fringes of this type are frequently used on mittens and wrist warmers, but can be used for just about anything.
Two or more fringes can be placed close to each other, to create a thicker fringe, or to create patterns within the fringe.
IMPORTANT: This pattern only describes how to make the fringes on the folkloric accessories shown among my projects.
