The Nordic leaf Socks are based of the Nordic leaf Mittens from my book Icelandic Handknits. They mix together the Nordic style tradition from the village of Selbu in Norway, very popular in Iceland at the turn of the 20th century, and the traditional leaf mittens from the Westfjords (Vestfirskir laufaviðarvettlingar). Just like the mittens, the socks have a recognizable white and black patterning as the main motif and a typical Icelandic leaf band in vivid colors. Each size has a different leaf pattern for a pleasing uninterrupted repetition of this large motif around the leg.
The socks are knitted from the cuff down with a reinforced heel flap in contrasting color and the gusset, echoing the thumb gusset in traditional Norwegian mittens, is placed unusually under the sole. The toe is knitted in a contrasting color and shaped with symmetrical decreases and grafted.

Sizes: 1(2,3,4) to fit a foot 21.5(24.5,26,29.5) cm/ 8¼(9½,10¼,11½)” in circumference.
You can achieve more sizes by changing needle size and adjust the length by adding or withdrawing plain rounds.

Recommended fit: negative ease of 1,5 cm / ½” in circumference and 15% in length.

Yarn: Katla sokkaband by Hélène Magnússon: pure new Icelandic lambswool with a dash of silk (1%), DK/sport weight sock yarn, 4 ply, non superwash, 100g skein = 220 m / 240 yds: 1 skein of each color
