Nordic Selbu-rose Mittens
’Beautiful nordic mittens, double-thickness for cold winter days’

This pattern has been adapted for modern 4-ply weight wool from a vintage 1945 Stitchcraft Magazine knitting pattern. The original 1945 pattern is reproduced at the end of the document (this uses vintage 3-ply or modern 2-ply wool).

The pattern includes a chart for the colourwork sections and written instructions.

A note on wool choice: strongly contrasting colours work best (e.g. black and white or forest green/navy and white); other 4-ply weight wools could be used instead of Adriafil’s 4-ply merino.

The pattern gives instructions on how the mittens can be knit in the round but also has additional notes about how it can be knit flat.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
1 50g ball of Adriafil 4-ply Merino, pictured in ‘burgundy’ (a dark shade)
1 50g ball of Adriafil 4-ply Merino, pictured in ‘white’ (a lighter, contrasting, shade)
A pair of 2.75mm needles
A pair of 3.25mm needles
A set of four 3.25mm needles, pointed at both ends
A tapestry needle

MEASUREMENTS:
Width all round hand: 7 inches
Length from tip to end of ribbing: 10.75 inches

DIFFICULTY
Difficult - it takes some skill (and quite a bit of concentration) to get a good finish and involves quite complicated techniques but the results are worth it.
