Nordic Wrap
This rectangular wrap is worked in stranded colorwork in the round as a tube with steek stitches, then cut open through the center of the steek to make a flat piece.
It requires approximately 1320 yards of the background color and 1600 yards of the foreground color (which is also used to knit the edging and facing).
The crochet hook is used only for a provisional cast-on -- there is no other crochet required in the pattern
Stitches are picked up all around the piece and a knitted-on border with a self-facing that neatly covers the cut edges of the steek is worked. The pattern used two different colors. In the sample shown, the background color is a rainbow colorway, but you could use two solid colors, or a solid with a self-striping or variegated yarn.
You could also change the dimensions of the piece to knit a square blanket by simply adding more or fewer pattern repeats around, and knitting to a longer or shorter length. The edging is a snap to adjust to any dimensions of a square or rectangle.
Please note that the colorwork pattern motif is charted only, but all other instructions are written out.
