Nordseewelle was created as a farewell-present to a lady that worked in the same team for a long time: now she is moving to a village close to the North Sea. I chose a yarn in sea colours - warm because of the wind - and added some maritime motifs.

The result is a knitted shawl in the shape of a wave. There is no front- nor backside for the first half of each side is knitted, the second half is purled (turn it and it is just the same on the other side). Using a yarn in water-colours there are also some water-animals knitted inside (purled in the knitted part/knitted in the purled part).

I had two skeins of this yarn: the shawl is about 40 cm/16 inches wide and about 160 cm/64 inches long.

It can be worked with any thick yarn you like - in shades of green, blue and grey it also gets the colours of the sea.

In October 2021 I created a lacy brother to this pattern: Neckarstrand
