I got a skein of fingering weight yarn while visiting New Orleans. The Mardi Gras colorway reminded me of the city, but it took me years of pondering what to do with the yarn. The short sections of color limited my options for letting the colors shine and not get too crazy. This was achieved by pairing them with solid colors, especially white and black and by having a small block of color.

This pattern would work very well for any yarn you have that you think would be too busy for stockinette or stripes, but it will also work with a gradual color change. Sky’s the limit!

The pattern is a little bit tricky because it doesn’t repeat in a regular fashion. When you start on the second half of the row, the pattern starts over instead of continue (i.e., the block of 4 stitches is both at the beginning and the end). So you have to pay attention, but using 2 circs helps.

You will have enough leftover of the contrast yarn for a second pair.
