Normal People Sweater
This was born of the frustration of seeing a jumper I really really liked (worn by Sally Rooney, author of Normal People in a press photo!) and not being able to find a pattern that matched what I was after. So I decided to try it myself.
It became something dreamy when I found Down Sheepy Lane’s pillowy soft Toasty Aran in a rich and warm colour. It is the most simple of constructions. Bottom up, split for front and back, three-needle bind-off, pick up sleeves and collar and bam! Done.
This is a very versatile project and a very simple construction so there are plenty of places for you to make your own choice… You can make it cropped and tight-fitting, sloppy and oversized, add a collar or not.
This is something my granny could have done with her eyes closed. There is really no design magic here – there was just nothing this simple on Ravelry!
SIZING:
The sizing names are based on the jumper size, not your body size! What’s important is to work to the size that will provide the actual finished measurements you are after. The most important measurement is your full chest/bust measurement.
For a more slimline fit, go with the size that matches your own measurements.
For a looser, ‘drapier’ fit, go with the size that is approx. 8 – 10 inches bigger than your own bust size.
For a really big sloppy joe, oversized fit, go with the size that is approx. 10 – 15inches bigger than your own bust size.
• Extra – Small (38 inch/ 96.5cm bust)
• Small: (42 inch/ 106cm bust)
• Medium (47 inch/ 119cm bust)
• Larger (50 inch/ 127cm bust)
• Extra-Large (55 inch/ 140cm bust)
The drop sleeves are made to the same instructions for each size. The circumference at the widest point (where they join the body) is 16.5 inch/41cm and 10 inch/ 25 cm at the wrist.
