This is my Cardinal Crochet Pattern. It’s a fun project for intermediate and seasoned crocheters during Christmas and all year round!
ABOUT THE PATTERN:
The Northern Cardinal amigurumi pattern has detailed step-by-step instructions for a male and female Cardinal that are accompanied by high-quality photos of the process.
This listing includes photo tutorials on how to make a magic ring, invisible decreases in single crochet, color changes in single crochet, invisible finishes and closing small rounds.

CONSTRUCTION:
The crest and tail are crocheted on the body. The wings and beak are sewn on
and the legs are made of wire. Instructions for crocheted legs are included. The birds won’t be able to stand if you make crocheted legs.
SIZE:
The Cardinals will be approx. 12cm / 4.7 inches tall and 15cm / 5.9 inches long, if using the indicated hook and yarn. If you would like them to be larger or smaller you can use a different yarn weight and adjust the hook size accordingly.
MATERIALS AND TOOLS:
- Cotton yarn in DK/light worsted weight in bright red, dark red, black, and gray for the optional crocheted feet. For the female, you’ll need light brown, gray, and red I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Rose Red (414), Red Wine (416), Pure Black (402), Soft Fudge (410), and Slate Grey (406) You will need less than one 50g (1.8oz) skein in each color.
- 2.5mm crochet hook / Size B-1 or C-2, depending on how tightly you crochet
- 5mm safety eyes
- Fiberfill
- Stitch marker
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Pins
- 2 x 30cm / 12” pieces of 1mm thick (18 AWG) craft wire (optional)
- Small flat pliers (optional)
