Northern Flight
Knit in garter stitch with minimal shaping, Northern Flight is a simple, yet striking scarf with color-dipped pointed ends. Three contrast colors and one main color play throughout the scarf adding intrigue with easy striping.
Designed to use up scrap sock yarn paired with one 100-gram skein, this pattern is a stash buster with simple, meditative stitching that pairs nicely with your favorite movie or audiobook.
Finished Measurements: Outside length of scarf: 78.5 inches, blocked; Inside length of scarf: 55 inches, blocked; Width: 7.5 inches, blocked.
Yarn: Fingering Weight; 4 different colors; approximately 120 g (557 yd) total of fingering weight yarn used in project
- Main Color: approximately 90 g (416 yd) of fingering weight yarn needed
- Color 1: approximately 10 g (47 yd) of fingering weight yarn needed
- Color 2: approximately 10 g (47 yd) of fingering weight yarn needed
- Color 3: approximately 10 g (47 yd) of fingering weight yarn needed
Colors Used in Sample:
- Main Color: Knit Picks Stroll Tonal Pearlescent (100 g, 462 yd)
- Color 1: Knit Picks Palette Bluebell (50 g, 231 yd)
- Color 2: Knit Picks Palette Chicory (50 g, 231 yd)
- Color 3: Knit Picks Palette Blue Note Heather (50 g, 231 yd)
Needles: US 5 (3.75 mm) or size to obtain gauge (either straight or circular needles work for this project)
Gauge: 30 stitches and 30 rows = 4 inches blocked of garter stitch
Notions: Stitch markers, scissors, and a tapestry needle
Stitches Used in Pattern: knit stitch (k), knit-in-front-and-back of stitch (kfb), and knit two together stitch (k2tog)
Notes:
- Scarf is entirely garter stitch
- No purl stitches are used
- All wrong-side wrongs are “knit across” with no decreases or increases
- All decreases and increases happen at the beginning of the row on the right-side only
- Gauge is not critical for this project
