Have you ever spent time watching the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) move across the night sky? The constant waves of changing colors inspired this pattern, which is suitable for an advanced beginner sock knitter. I intentionally chose self-striping yarn and a horizontal stitch pattern to mimic the waves of color in the sky. They are knit from the top down, in a 12-stitch feather and fan repeat to a standard heel flap. The pattern continues to down the toe with 9 and 12-stitch repeats. The pattern is written for a medium women’s shoe. It can be adjusted for different sizes by increasing or decreasing 12 stitches at a time, or more easily by adjusting the needles size to suit. The leg length is 6”, which can also be adjusted to suit individual preference by adjusting the number of pattern repeats.
