Errata The directions for the sleeves do not tell you to switch to the larger-size dpns or circular after working the rib. Also on the sleeve directions, Row 9 of the cable pattern should start with P2, just like the side cable. The chart is correct. I will update the pattern soon.

Do you knit for a man (or maybe you ARE that man) who won’t tolerate anything fancy, and find yourself bored to tears? Here’s something for both of you. The Northumberland Pullover has a fun and easy cable pattern traveling discreetly up the sides of the body, and up the sleeves and across the shoulder--just enough to hold the interest of the knitter, while producing a sweater that the most no-nonsense wearer can enjoy. The shoulder saddles are formed with short rows a la Elizabeth Zimmerman, and the only seaming is the grafting of the underarms.

Sizes are S, M, and L (chest sizes 36-38/40-42/44-46 inches, 91-97/102-107/112-117 cm). There is about 4” of positive ease.

While this was originally intended as a man’s sweater, one of the female testers looked so good in it that I added the “unisex” tag.
