Northward Shawl
Northward is a lace shawl designed in the footsteps of traditional Faroe Islands shawls with it’s lace side triangles and center back gusset. Lace patterns used in the shawl date back to Victorian times and the earliest written knitting patterns.
The shawl begins at the neck with garter stitch tab cast-on and continues by knitting back and forth. The sides have garter stitch edgings as has the cast-off edge before the crocheted cast-off.
Lace section is charted and chart is colour coded.
Size can be adjusted with pattern repeats and yarn thickness. Laceweight yarn works as well in this shawl. Samples shown are small shawls covering the shoulders.
Lace pattern requires loose tension and good blocking to show it’s beauty.
You will need about 100 g of fingering weight yarn, long circular needle sized to give you good tension and a crochet hook to bind off and a darning needle to sew in ends.
