Welcome to “my place.” This pattern was designed as an entry for the MY PLACE competition organized by Kate Davies (KDD & Co) in March 2020. The yarn, Milarrochy Tweed provides the perfect earthiness and subtle color flecks to reflect the many surprises you might find in the forest.
When posed with the question “where is my place?” we often
focus on the land we call home. What if the place that brings you comfort is not where you reside, dwell, or hang your hat, but rather a distant land, in the midst of a grand forest, a wide-open prairie, or at the water’s edge?
The simple act of knitting can transport us to far-away places through the stories told in our stitches. A Norwegian forest inspired this elongated triangular-shaped shawl; the bark of the trees, the green of the leaves, pine needles, and moss dotted with the most brilliant bright red berries. This is my place… deep in the forest surrounded by the great beings we call trees.
One of my most favorite features of this design are the miniature bobbles to represent the bright red berries I found on the day I walked through this magical forest on a mountain overlooking the beautiful city of Oslo. I affectionately call the edging the “berry bobble bind-off.”
