This shawl joins my series of patterns for warm shoulder shawls. Its name stems from the beautiful red wool purchased during a recent visit to Norway.

The shawl is constructed so that it remains in place as you wear it; it also sports a lace design along the edge and a shawl collar to keep your neck warm. Stitches are cast on at the bottom back and is knitted to the nape of the neck. Then stitches are bound off in the center and each front is knitted separately. The collar is fashioned by picking up stitches along the center front edges and neck, then shaped by short rows and increases. Stitches are picked up around the outside and two garter ridges finish the edge.

As this yarn was purchased in Norway, it is not readily available in the US. Cascade 220 Superwash Merino or any other soft worsted weight yarn can be substituted.
