Not-So-Scary Mittens
This pattern was originally written for the Not-So-Scary Mittens class that Laurie and Bree teach at StevenBe in Minneapolis, MN. It has differentiated thumb gussets for each hand, and a simple, textured pattern repeat on the back that gives it a little something extra. The thick yarn means the mittens knit up quickly and keep hands toasty warm.
Note on yardage:
The medium size as written used up basically the entire skein of Malabrigo Rasta with a somewhat scary game of yarn chicken at the end. If you are making the larger size or add extra rows in anywhere, you will almost certainly need a second skein. If you suspect this might be your scenario, we suggest considering a contrasting or complimentary color for the cuffs, as hand-dyed yarn often varies greatly from skein to skein.
Alternatively, omitting the textured pattern on the back in favor of plain stockinette would save you some yardage, but that’s our favorite part of the pattern.
