Noughts & Croasters
Noughts & Croasters, (a.k.a. Tic Tac Toasters) are a set of double-sided coasters with noughts on one side and crosses on the other.
Fun to make, fun to give, fun to play with, and they are also handy as coasters! Practical whimsy in action.
The coasters are worked in stripes, using only one colour at a time and slipping the other colour, and the noughts & crosses are formed with cables on both the front and .. the other front. :)
Play with high contrast in hue, value or intensity, or if you like, work the whole thing in a single colour for no contrast at all. No need to use this particular yarn. Feel free to experiment with anything that you think might give a fabric you like. Remnants would be perfect, and there is no need for the set to all be in the same colours.
The sport weight cotton version measures 10cm/4” square, and DK weight version in The Fibre Co. Luma measures 11cm square.
I used a sport weight, so if substituting a fingering weight and wishing to increase the size, you might like to add an extra stitch either side and an extra row top & bottom to increase length. Or you could add on an icord edge.
