Looking for all the colours with minimal ends to sew in? Make the yarn do the hard work in this bright and cheerful hat that will keep you warm and cosy throughout all your outdoor adventures. The geometric design, featuring an eight-pointed star, is named after a local estate where I enjoy walking in all weathers. This fun-to-knit hat works up quickly in DK yarn making it the perfect gift knitting for Christmas or winter birthdays.

Method: This stranded colorwork hat is knit in the round from the brim up. It has a rolled hem, corrugated ribbing, and easy-to-knit colourwork motifs containing minimal long floats.

Please note the colorwork design in this pattern is charted, not written out. You need to be prepared to read and work from charts in order to enjoy knitting this design.

Size: This pattern is written in 3 sizes. All instructions that differ depending on the size you are knitting are color coded and indicated with parentheses like this: S (M, and L).

Sizing has 1.5” – 2.5” (3.75 - 6 cm) of negative ease built in, so choose a size 1.5” – 2.5” (3.75 - 6 cm) smaller than the head circumference of the intended wearer.

Yarn: You can use any DK yarn that you like and with which you can get tension/ gauge. You will need a self-striping or gradient yarn and a contrasting color.

Please note I do not recommend using yarns with a high cotton content as cotton doesn’t stretch as much as other fibers and this will affect the fit of your hat.

The amounts of each color required will depend on which size you are knitting, as a guide for the hat pictured (size M) I used the following:
MC - Cygnet DK in 256 Cream approx. 110 metres (120 yards)
CC - Cygnet Boho Spirit in 6461 Mojo approx. 55 metres (60 yards)
