Since we are hoping for rain, rain and more rain in California after several years of severe drought, I am having fun creating “rainy” patterns that may serve as a knitted rain dance! This cowl combines beaded raindrops and a zig-zag Aran pattern to create the look of a small stream of flowing water.

You may use any weight yarn, though the measurements, chart repeats, number of beads, gauge and needle size will differ, depending on how long or wide you would like the cowl.

For example, Tosh Pashmina was used with a US 5, and 1 and 1/2 chart reps. As each row had three reps of the pattern, 90 beads were used. For Tosh Vintage, the chart was used only once with two pattern reps per row, adding only 40 beads.

Robebe used fingering weight yarn with a US 5 (3.75 mm), cast on 216 sts, worked 7 ends of ribbing, 1 1/2 chart reps and another 7 ends of ribbing for the end. If you wish to work in the round, do not use the first and last two edge stitches on the chart.
