Notes From the Designer:

Núverandi is the Icelandic word for current or present. The rippling, alternating, icy waves of this shawl are also reminiscent of water currents. Together, they remind me to take the time to be present in and mindful of the currents of my life.

While working this pattern, crocheters can practice varying stitch heights from single to triple crochets. Half double crochets in the third loop on specific wrong side rows create texture and a sense of overlapping waves. At an extra long 105 inches, Núverandi has yards of dramatic effect, which allows for a wide variety of wearability, from a simple wrapped shawl to multiple cowl, scarf, or hood drapes. If you prefer a shorter shawl, stitch multiples are included for easy customization. I hope you enjoy the results!

  • The sample shown used 1313 yds (1201 m) total: Color A – 738 yds (675 m) and Color B – 575 yds (526 m).
  • This shawl can be customized for your desired length and width. To modify the length, increase or decrease the beginning chain by a multiple of 16. To make a wider shawl, simply continue repeats, as desired.
  • As written, each stripe utilizes approximately 115 yards (105 m) of Expression Fiber Arts CashSilk Sock yarn. If you plan to increase the width, make sure to order enough yarn. • If you prefer, you can work a foundation single crochet of 399 instead of a foundation chain and Row 1.
  • Check your yarn for colorfastness by wet blocking a swatch. If the colors bleed, steam block instead.
  • Turning chains do NOT count as the first stitch unless otherwise indicated.
