NYBG Mitts
Inspired by the beauty of the New York Botanic Garden
in the Bronx, this sweet pair of mitts is worked in a
slipped stitch pattern. Slipped stitch, or mosaic patterns,
are a wonderful way to achieve a colorwork effect without the need to carry two yarns on a row. From the moment I first saw this pretty floral motif in Barbara Walker’s wonderful book, Mosaic Knitting, I knew I had to use it in a design that lets the stitch pattern take center stage.
Instructions are given for two variations.
Version A features the floral motif as an all over pattern. Version B uses the Floral Motif in a border, while the rest of the mitt is worked in helical stripes, a technique which avoids an obvious join line at the beginning of the round.
6.25 7.5” (16 19 cm) relaxed circumference, meant to be worn with 1-3” (2.5-7.5 cm) of negative ease
Overall length of Version A is 8.5” (21.5 cm) long for Overall length of Version B is 10.5 11}” (26.5 28 cm).
