Is there anyone better at hugs than an Octopus?

Maybe a sloth. Or a boa constrictor. But I can’t think of anything else. Octopusessesses have so many arms to hold you!

When knit to gauge, the Octopus measures 7” when sitting flat on his bottom and 22” when measured from the tip of a tentacle to the top of his head.

Are you new to knitting in the round? This Octopus is an excellent way to practice. It’s a straightforward pattern -my easiest pattern so far- requiring only the ability to increase, decrease and work in the round. It is written for double pointed needles, but there is no reason magic loop wouldn’t work. There’s only one awkward (not tricky or hard - it really is just awkward) moment in the whole project and it doesn’t last long. Some of the test knitters even worked two tentacles at a time. I didn’t because that kind of thing Confuses me, but it has been done!

If you intend to knit this for a baby or a small child, don’t make the tentacles any longer than 12”! Anything longer is an entanglement hazard. No one wants that.
