The opening and closing of cables in this pattern reminds us of the knots in a beautifully grained piece of wood and we think it works up great for men or women. The twisted stitches in this hat only cross as a two-stitch cable occasionally, making it a very easy pattern to work, especially as you don’t need a cable needle.

This pattern is now available as a PDF or printed single pattern knit in Eden Cottage Bowland DK.

Yarn:
Juno Pearl: 40% superfine alpaca, 40% merino and 20% silk, 100g = 230m/251yd, 1 skein
Colour shown: Bittersweet

Gauge:
10cm/4in = 25sts x 34 rows in Oak Knot Twist pattern, washed and measured lying flat, un-stretched.

Needles:
2.5mm/US 2, 40cm/16in circular needle for brim ribbing
3mm/US 3 circular needle for body of hat: You can use a 100cm/40in circular needle, using the ‘magic loop’ technique for the entire body of the hat, or use a 40cm/16in circular needle for the hat and a set of dpns for the crown decreases.

Notions: stitch marker, darning needle
