Oak Leaf & Acorn Headband
This headband has a matching cowl:
Oak Leaf & Acorn Cowl
The oak tree is highly esteemed for its strength and longevity. On this comfortable headband, the oak motif begins with small leaf buds on a sinuously undulating stem with twigs sprouting to the left and right. As the headband widens, acorns and oak leaves appear. When the work nears the end, acorns and leaves are replaced by buds and the headband tapers again.
The Oakleaf & Acorn Headband achieves a repoussé effect with the use of cables and short rows. Optional felting with a feltable wool yarn allows wind resistance but is fairly light when worked in a sport yarn.
Oak leaf, acorn, and bud motifs have both written and charted instructions that feed back into each other to achieve the required length. In addition, instructions for felting are included in the 17 page pattern.
Skill Set = Advanced: Counting stitches, cables, short rows, increases, decreases, charted & written instructions
