I designed this blanket for a friend’s baby whose heritage was Lebanese on his father’s side and predominantly German and Irish on his mother’s side. I used the pine cone pattern to represent the Lebanese side of the family (because of the pine tree on the Lebanese flag), oak leaves as the symbol of Germany, and obviously Irish moss stitch to represent Irish ancestry.

I found oak leaf and pine cone patterns online and alternated panels of those patterns with Irish moss stitch. The blanket is a generous crib-sized blanket which I hope is big enough to be used for a few years to come.

I found that the increases at the base of the leaves, which are worked like bobbles, left small holes in the finished piece. I sewed them closed when I was finished, but you may not need to do this.
