Oak Park Cowl
The Oak Park Cowl is a two-color, Fair Isle unisex design that features Mountain Meadow Wool’s Hanna. Knitted in the round, Oak Park includes a two-color seed stitch border and a symmetrical colorwork design that is based on the stained glass work of Frank Lloyd Wright. This particular stained glass window design can be found in Wright’s personal home and studio in Oak Park, Illinois. Made with basic knit and purl stitches, this cowl is perfect for an adventurous beginner knitter. The pattern includes instructions to make a single size cowl that when blocked will measure approximately 7.5” by 24” (circumference).
Although this design uses less yardage than a single skein of Mountain Meadow Wool’s Hanna, you will need two 50g skeins in two different colors to complete this design. The sample shown in these photos use colors Pinecone and Natural. The actual yardage used is:
- C1: Pinecone 21g (135 yds)
- C2: Natural 26g (167 yds)
- Total Yardage Used: 47g (302 yds)
Any other fingering-weight yarn in colors of your choice can be substituted and is appropriate for this project. Because I am a tight knitter, I highly recommend checking your gauge against mine to ensure that you have enough yarn to complete the design.
