Oakfield Mitts
This pattern will be 25% off with code “giftalong2024” from Thursday, 11/21 at 5 pm EST to Wednesday, 11/27 at 11:59 pm EST.
The Oakfield Mitts combine several of my favorite elements: cables, the color green, and crisp twisted ribbing (which is not only decorative—it adds “grip” and durability on the palms). Knit in Merino DK from String Theory Hand Dyed Yarn, the mitts have a snug, stretchy fit and can be knit with either short or long cuffs. Keep an eye out for the upcoming matching Oakfield Cowl!
This pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.
Recommended Yarn:
String Theory Hand Dyed Yarn Merino DK — 100% superwash merino — 280 yds (256 m) to 113 g per skein. Shown in colorway Kiwi in size S (long cuffs).
Yardages are for sizes S (M, L, XL):
Short Cuffs — approx. 130 (140, 150, 160) yds / 119 (128, 137, 146) m
Long Cuffs — approx. 165 (180, 195, 210) yds / 151 (165, 178, 192) m
Sizing -- Lengths for short / long cuffs are 7.75” (19.5 cm) / 9.75” (25 cm):
S — 5.75” (14.5 cm) around, to fit hand circumference of 6 - 7” (15 - 18 cm).
M — 6.25” (16 cm) around, to fit hand circumference of 6.5 - 7.5” (16.5 - 19 cm).
L — 6.75” (17 cm) around, to fit hand circumference of 7 - 8” (18 - 20.5 cm).
XL — 7.25” (18.5 cm) around, to fit hand circumference of 7.5 - 8.5” (19 - 21.5 cm).
Gauge:
28 sts and 32 rounds to 4” (10 cm) in twisted ribbing pattern, worked in the round and blocked.
PLEASE NOTE: Changes in gauge will affect finished size, look of patterning, and amount of yarn used. To meet these dimensions, be sure to use needle size that gives gauge. Samples were worked using US 5 (3.75 mm) needles, but as I tend to knit very tightly, I’ve listed a needle one size smaller.*
Needles:
US 4 (3.5 mm) needles for preferred method of working in the round — samples were knit with DPNs.
Other Materials:
Cable needle in appropriate size, waste yarn, tapestry needle, thin stitch markers.
