The Oatmill Sweater is worked from bottom up in two separate pieces: back and front. On the front panel, the neckline shaping for the button band begins at the same level as the armholes. The European shoulder construction implies that the back is slightly shorter than the front. The shoulder seams are sewn together and are slightly shifted towards the back. After the shoulder seams are done, the sleeves are picked up from the armhole and worked back and forth. First, the sleep cup is shaped using German short rows. Then, the sleeves are knit down to the cuff with decreases placed in the centre of the fabric. Then the sleeves and the body parts are sewn together along the sides using mattress stitch from bottom up. Then, the neckline is knit in 1x1 ribbing. It can be made either single-layer or double-layer. Then, the button bands are knit in 1x1 ribbing, and their bottom edges are sewn to the front. Finally, the buttons are sewn on.
