It’s a shawl! It’s a scarf! It’s…oh, who cares. It’s an obtuse triangle with super-simple construction (commuter knitting, anyone?) that shows off variegated yarns brilliantly. Worked top-down, you can simply knit until (nearly) out of yarn. Written for fingering weight but easily adaptable to any yarn.

Because of the construction and the use of garter stitch, this is an ideal project for a hand dyed yarn that will pool. For the effect shown in the sample, choose a variegated yarn with long color repeats, approximately 15-30 inches, in two colors.

With simple construction and detailed instructions, Obtuse is the perfect first shawl project.
