The Ocean Waves Scarf is made with two yarns held together. One solid sport or worsted weight and one variegated in lace or fingering weight. Its not a difficult design to knit. Its Knits, Purls, K2together and Increases across the rows.
When you combine the two yarns together, depending on the types of yarns you use. The weight can be any where for a Worsted Weight to a Chunky weight. I believe when you hold Berroco Boboli with Katia Concept it makes the weight closer to a Chunky. I will also make this note in the pattern and resubmit it to ravely.
The k2tog and increases done it 8 stitch repeats making a total of 24 stitches makes each wave. I like to put a light background color with a lace weight variegated yarn. This gives it a lot of movement in the design. You could also use a single yarn, sooth or fuzzy, sparkly or any combination that you can envision. A total of 350 yards will make the scarf. But more yarn will make a bigger one.
A size 10.5 knitting needle in a circular needle 32” long is the only tool you need except a tapestry needle to weave in tails. The bind off is very important. It has to be done loose so both the cast on edge and the bind off edge have equal stretch. There is a YouTube Video called “Bind Off Regular, Loose and Very Loose” It is really helpful to use in many different applications such as scarves, shawl, stoles, and any other item that needs a loose and stretchy edge.
The gauge is not super important. If your a little tight, thats okay, you can always make another repeat or cast on another 24 stitches. If your loose that works too. It will be a bit bigger and more snugly .
