October Pumpkin Garden Socks
Enjoy making a pair of autumnal carrot cake and pumpkin flavoured garden socks just in time for the cold weather with this easy to follow detailed pattern.
A great Stash buster! Choose to either use 4ply/fingering weight yarn from your stash or specific yarn which will naturally achieve some of the pattern in the sock.
Have fun knitting in the round with circular needles or DPN’s for some vanilla knitting together with some easy pattern challenges.
Method and Materials
The sock is knit in the round primarily only on the knit side, apart from at the heel flap where there are some knits and purls on both sides of the work.
The cable pattern and some garter and lace areas are knitted using the solid terracotta yarn together with the heathered grey yarn in a moss/seed stitch. The rest is in the variegated sock yarn with a heel flap and gusset detail and grey stripes.
Option 1 is to use three colours from your stash. The stash buster yarns are; a variegated orange, creme type speckled sock yarn, a heathered or solid grey sock yarn and a solid terracotta or orange pumpkin colour yarn. which does not have to be sock yarn.
The solid can be a sock yarn or just a wool or alpaca yarn. I used an alpaca and wool mix here but you can use any as it is not in a hard wearing area hence alternative scraps from your stash can be used.
Yarn A. Speckled orange and cream: 50-60 grams
Yarn B. Heathered or solid grey: 20-25 grams
Yarn C. Terracotta or orange pumpkin: 20-25 grams
Amounts may be slightly different depending on yardage. You may have left overs etc.
Option 2 is to use a specific yarn which is the 4ply variegated orange speckled and grey heathered sock yarn by King Cole in the ‘Cosmic Sky’ colourway and a 4ply orange/terracotta solid wool and alpaca yarn in the Drops Nord No. 11 colourway.
Yarn A and Yarn B. King Cole Cosmic Sky: 70-85 grams
Yarn C. Drops Nord No. 11: 20-25 grams
Amounts may be slightly different depending on yardage. You may have left overs etc.
Gauge
The gauge is approx. 37st and 50 rows to 10 cm or 4 inches.
2.25-2.50 circular sock needles or DPN’s.
Darning needle.
Each area has a set of rows or measurements in cms which pertain to that segment.
