instructions given to change size of scarf

Super scarves are in this season, so join the trend and whip up the October Super Scarf. This oversized scarf crochet pattern works as a scarf, a head covering, or a wrap, and even in a generic worsted weight, the large hook makes it drape softly and nicely.

This crochet pattern is worked in rows and finished with a round of border stitching. The ends are created with a simple sc decrease pattern and topped off with a large bundle of fringe. You’ll alternate between 3 basic stitch patterns, and the 3-color striping with the occasional row of BLO creates a striking look. However, the textured stitches and the even rows of the herringbone half double crochet mean that, even worked in one color, this crochet scarf will really pop.

If you’ve never done a herringbone half double crochet, don’t fear. I’ve given both written and photo instructions on how to complete it, and once you’ve mastered this crochet stitch, I think you’ll fall in love with how flat and evenly it works up. Even this monster crochet scarf works up quickly with the large hook and this quick-to-learn stitch.
