In addition to a comforting familiar friend, HugKnits Octopus can double as a puppet–the head is hollow–a great distraction tool for a fussy or bored baby.

The entire Octopus is knit from top down with no seams. It starts with Judy’s Magic Cast-on. Head knit in the round and tentacles are knit flat (they magically twist and turn, as is the nature of stockinette stitch).

Oddly enough MAKES A LOVELY WINE BOTTLE TOPPER as well!

Although the sample is made in DK weight, keep in mind worsted weight yarn can also be used for a larger Octopus or sock weight yarn for a tiny companion. Just make sure its washable. 190 yds DK weight yarn, 2 yds Brown DK weight yarn.

Face detail is worked from a chart with back stitch and duplicate stitch. Easy peasie stuff for an adventurous beginner or intermediate knitter. If you run into trouble, pattern support is always just an email away.
