The cardigan is knitted top-down in 3x3 rib. First, part of the back is worked, then both shoulders. Then, stitches are picked up along the top of the shoulder so that the yoke is worked together. Sleeves and button bands are worked last, and the bind-off is done elegantly with an Italian bind-off.
The sizes are calculated based on a positive ease of approximately 10-30 cm, which you add to your own bust measurement. Since two sizes are combined, it’s wise to check which size you should knit based on the widest measurement of your or the recipient’s upper body (refer to bust measurement). For example, if the bust measurement is 103 cm and you want a generous ease of 25 cm, the calculation would be:
103 cm + 25 cm = 128 cm. It is then recommended to knit size XL/2XL, which will give a positive ease of 27 cm (130 cm – 103 cm = 27 cm). However, if a more fitted cardigan is desired, size M/L will provide a range of motion of 13 cm (116 cm – 103 cm = 13 cm).
