Odd Harmonics
**The “Odd Harmonics” pdf also includes instructions to make the “Ziggy Pop” hat, which can be found here.**
Join us for the Color Packs & Stash Scraps Knit-along from Jan. 1 - Feb. 28, 2016!
Odd Harmonics is a slouch hat with saw-toothed stripes. The jagged edges are not created through alternating colors, rather, the magic is all done with slipped stitches. Since the pattern only uses one color per row, this is a simple knit with lots of possibilities for improvisation!
This oversized, lightweight hat makes for a colorful indoor/outdoor accessory. And the stripe pattern is written with a flexibility that allows you to incorporate odds and ends of leftover yarn, even if you only have 4 or 5 yds to use!
The pattern is written in 4 sizes that will fit a baby up to a large adult head (specifics listed above). Choose your size based on the finished circumference that is slightly smaller than you actual head measurement. “Slouchy-ness” is easy to modify by subtracting rows before beginning crown decreases for a more fitted look, or by adding rows for some extra slouch. Extra stripes can easily be added as well, if you have more odds and ends to use up!
Gauge is 28 sts x 42 rows = 4” x 4” in Stockinette Stitch.
The Yarn:
My sample hat used the “Pewter and Rainbow Leftie Set” from Miss Babs (www.missbabs.com) • 100% superwash merino • 115 g / 400 yds • 1 full skein + 5 mini skeins (40 yds each) • approx 150 (165, 180, 200) yds of MC & 15 yds or less of each CC.
It is likely you will have enough yarn leftover from a “Leftie Set” to make a second hat, which is why this pattern comes as a 2-hat pattern set!
Other Materials:
• US Size 1 / 2.25mm circular needle
• 1 traveling stitch marker
• yarn needle
Techniques Used:
• Knitting in the round
