My designs where part of the second World Amigurumi Exhibition at Resobox.
All participants had to make something that represented their country.
Us Belgians take great pride in our beer.
We have a lot of it and we are convinced that it’s the best beer in the world.
Monk Augustijn and Donkey Bernardus, named after two of our beers, represent the beginning of Belgian beer culture.
It all started a very long time ago in the abbeys in the Middle Ages. People preferred beer over water back then because water was contaminated. Most of the beer was brewed by monks, for their own use and to raise an income for the abbey.
Through the centuries our beer had a rocky history and almost disappeared after the second world war. It got picked up again in the sixties and has thrived since then.
Today there are over 2,000 Belgian beers. That number changes almost daily, new beers are brewed constantly, and some beers are only available for a limited time.
There are still six abbeys left where monks brew beer.
