Ode to Greenland
Greetings to all women of Greenland!
I have always found your national costumes fascinating - a true work of art. Making a costume is said to take up to a year.
It inspired me to design this sweater.
It is, of course, merely a humble attempt to capture the spirit of this beautiful costume by using a pair of knitting needles.
Construction:
Circular yoke sweater in stranded pattern worked top down. Because of the top down construction length of body and sleeves can easily be adjusted to personal measurements.
Size: S (M, L)
Model is wearing size S on bust size 86 cm.
Recommended ease 5-10 cm.
Finished measurements:
bust circumference 97 (102, 107) cm / 38 (40, 42) inches
length from shoulder to hem 57 (58, 59) cm
length from underarm to hem 36 cm
sleeve length from underarm 45 cm
Yarn:
Fingering weight.
The sample was knit using Miss Babs Yummy 2 Ply (365 m/115 g) and Miss Babs Gradient Set Yummy 2 Ply Toes, 6 skeins (121 m/38 g pr. skein).
MC: Dark Andromeda (dark red), 2 (2, 2) skeins / 730 m.
CC1: Ebony (black), 1 (1, 2) skeins / 365 (365, 730) m.
CC2: Bokhara (light blue) 1 (1, 1) skein / 365 m.
Gradient Set: “Oriental Rug”: 1 (1, 1) set / 6 skeins / 726 m, GC1: Aubusson (red), GC2: Hamadon (orange), GC3: Isfahan (mustard yellow), GC4: Serapi (teal), GC5: Baluch (light green), and GC6: Sarouk (dark green).
Gauge:
26 sts and 36 rows/rounds = 10 cm in stocking stich.
26 sts and 34 rows/rounds in stranded pattern in stocking stitch.
Needles:
3 mm: circular needles 40 cm and 60 cm and double pointed needles.
