Odin
Odin is a lovely square with crocheted cables. Although cable work is more common in knitting, it is lovely to create them with some crochet. The Old Norse tales inspire this pattern. When you dive into the deep and rich history of it, you will find so many stories, characters, and ancient rune work. The Vikings loved to decorate their ships, homes, graves, and anything else you can think of. This specific crocheted cable motif can be found on the throne on which Odin is settled in some old images. I made a cushion cover from two squares, but the squares individually could turn out into a wonderful blanket as well, I presume.
Some information about the pattern:
-
the pattern is made with Scheepjes Stonewashed. You have to use two colors. Color A and Color B. When making a cushion cover, you will need 6 balls of Color A and 1 ball of Color B. This is the total, including assembly.
-
a crochet hook size 4.0 and 4.5mm is needed.
-
the pattern is available in English (US) and Dutch. The Dutch version is translated by Tineke Tap. She also made a test version in the vivid blue and yellow combination.
-
the pattern holds common stitches.
The pattern holds a written version, a step-by-step photo tutorial, and even a self-explanatory chart, making it easier to see where the cables connect.
The square size will be approximately 43-44 cm on each side; a cushion cover will be 45x45 cm when finished.
