Odin's Hue*
- Hue is Danish for Hat or Kep.
Odin’s Hue was the first. I have several more on our yarn web site www.yarnhygge.com
Odin’s Hue*
Odin’s 2 Raven - Memory & Thought and the Sun Wheel are century old Scandinavian motifs.
I tried to make the crown “Feathery” in honor of the 2 Ravens.
I choose colors instead of grey/charcoal for the “Feathers”.
The Shetland Keps provided the inspiration for this “HUE”, love playing with colors.
This is a win win combination, colors, using up my leftovers in the yak/silk/merino,
creating a super soft warm hat.
Figured there was room for a Scandinavian version, based on my Nordic heritage.
These hats are great for using up all those leftovers.
Plus they can tell a story or bring out favorite colors or favorite scenery.
Do not hesitate to play with your leftover colors to create your own version.
Any Fingering work as long as you get close to gauge. If you wish this “Hue” to be larger go up in needle size. Smaller down in needle size.
Each round in 1 color takes approximately 3 yards. This way you can decide what colors to use where in the pattern and make sure you have enough for any given round.
180 stitches on US 1.5 (2.5mm) = 3 yards.
I used my hand dyed Yak/Silk/Merino as it is so soft, warm and comfortable to wear. I have lots of leftovers. But you can use your own favorite fingering.
Needle length 16” for bottom rib border & 24” for body of “Hue”. You MUST use 24” needle length or your stranded work will be too tight.
Remember patterns are just guides. You are the creator. Have fun!
